Refreshing your company's blog content

If you have a blog containing over 50 posts, use some of the following ideas to refresh your content.

Evaluate how you are doing. The initial work you did when optimising your content when you first started blogging may now be somewhat outdated.

Some recommendations on what works well for boosting traffic were brought by business2community.com.

1) Erase irrelevant content

Sometimes, less is more. If your blog contains some posts that have nothing to do with the focus of your business, this won’t help you succeed in user searches: on the contrary, such content may even hurt your rankings.

Therefore, you should do a content audit leading to more focused content:

  • Identify content that isn’t attractive for your core audience (posts that have poor interactions or views).
  • Change it. Erase irrelevant posts and update those which are outdated. Consolidate short pieces of content and turn them into a better resource on the relevant topic.
  • Also update your internal links. Take time to ensure your internal links are there. Add new pertinent links and remove any old ones that are no longer functional.

2) Don’t erase content that is still relevant

Posts that bring in traffic should not be removed. So if it is still good, don’t erase it: just update and your content will still be valuable.

If someone is still searching for specific items, you can continue to mention them. You just need to add an explanation of how the situation has changed or why the product, service or company in question is no longer available. By providing this information you needn’t necessarily lose traffic.

3) Re-releases are permitted

Having updated your content, you should take the final step and re-release older posts. This is straightforward and the new additional information qualifies your content as deserving of attention. Basically, your content should not be forgotten.
