Stop being a talkative salesperson and start listening to prospects instead

Přestaňte být upovídaným prodejcem a raději klientům naslouchejte

There are still too many salespeople who think about what they should say to clients rather than focusing on what they should ask the clients. The main task of the salesperson is not, contrary to the popular belief, to sell a product, but to solve the client's problem. It may seem like just a small difference, but understanding it will significantly help you in getting new customers. Forget what you are talking about and start focusing fully on the client. Here are the advantages you gain by stopping talking too much and starting to listen more.

You will get to know whether the prospect is even worth your time

Perhaps even more important than detecting a lucrative client is the ability to detect a client that will not be worth your time. It can either be a person who requires or unknowingly needs something different than what you are offering, and you cannot help them. Furthermore, selling your product will produce an unsatisfied customer. The prospect might turn out a troublemaker who simply will not pay off due to time, stress and financial reasons. You cannot detect clients like this in advance if you do not let them talk enough.

You will learn what motivates the prospect

As Business2Community.com states, by using good questions and listening skills, you will get to know what is called the client's so-called „hot button“  issue. This is the main (often hidden) motivation. For example, if you are selling language courses, the „hot button“ of the client might be the fact that they want to apply for a job overseas. Knowing their „hot button“ is crucial in closing the deal successfully.

You will earn prospect's trust

You will gain the prospect's trust by being interested in their opinions, experiences. All people are egotistical by nature, and if someone is genuinely interested in you, they seem likeable to you. Use this to your advantage and instead of praising yourself and your product, focus on the client. Prospects will like you, you will build a rapport with them and you will make the successful close of the deal easier.
